The Taiwanese government was replaced by Japanese officials and became a dictatorship. Laws and regulations grew harsher. Schools systems changed, and suddenly kids were only allowed to speak and learn the Japanese language. Japanese shrines were being built everywhere.

Fear was everywhere.
